While getting the Fantasia in Best Show Minor DVD will be awesome, it’s just the icing on the savory & sweet seven-layer cake that is The Best Show. If you don’t know, you better ask somebody, quick!
Worlds Worst Ghost Catchers came to Richmond to film yesterday and selected the historic Richmond Pump House as it’s location. In recent years the pumphouse has been closed to visitors and serves more as a rendezvous point for anonymous sex than anything else, so a bunch of the photographers I know used it as an excuse to explore the abandoned space.
The “spectacle” was pretty ridiculous. They never explained much to the crowd of hundreds who had lined up to watch ghosts be caught or a live seance, or for anything to happen prove that ghosts exist. There was loads of dramatic lighting, creepy/ambient flute music, smoke machines, strobe lights, a giant custom made tesla coil in what a friend described as a “money machine”. I suppose it wouldn’t surprise you to tell you that they filmed the whole thing for some unknown TV show, and the expert (the one wearing the cowboy hat must know the most, right?) admitted that he didn’t know anything about the location so it was clearly selected for it’s dramatic element.
Anyway, I think my photos of the event turned out pretty decent, and I got some cool shots of the surroundings before my battery died (sppppoooookkkkyyyyy).
Don’t worry, they didn’t find any ghosts at the pump house. Photos of the spectacle to come, and include but aren’t limited to: lasers, fog machines and a giant tesla coil.
Jonathan and Antonia at the Watermellon Festival by pjsykes.
Jonathan has been one of my favorite Richmond songwriters for almost as long as I’ve lived here, and it’s been exciting to watch his style progress. Glad PJ got this awesome shot.
I can’t agree more with the awesomeness that is this song. A great night & I can’t wait for next week when I inevitably up my donation to the premium level and an appearance by Robert Patton Oswalt. For the record, anyone know Brian or Zack from Richmond? I thought I had a handle on the FOT in town. Everyoneelse, let’sdo itnext week and get Richmond on the map.
I filmed this last night at the Best Show On WFMU marathon show, which raised about $72,000 in three hours. If you haven’t pledged yet, please do so next Tuesday, 8 PM - 11 PM EST — the show pulled in a lot of money, but the station is still far off from their goal, and every bit helps. By the way, I agree with Tom Scharpling — “Bottled In Cork” may be the best Ted Leo song ever.
It’s not super clear, but if you can see the DVDs sticking out, they’re all Criterion Collection. There’s 20+ just at this branch of the Richmond City public library. The more you know…
Just picked up a copy of my friends first comic at Velocity Comics. Richmonders should head over there and pick up their copies (they’ve ordered more already), or just check for it at your own local shop. Congrats Brea and Zane.
